I've never been into politics probably because I don't believe in pushing my beliefs on others. I hate all this election crap. Usually I just ignore it but that's not been possible this year. (I tried, really I tried!)
The worst part is everybody ASKING who your going to vote for. Was I the only person who was taught it was rude to ask. Who you vote for is no ones business. That's why it's done by secret ballot. So I do not appreciate being asked who I voted for by family, friends or the grocery store checker. And I certainly don't want to hear who a total stranger voted for while waiting to buy toilet paper.
But since everyone else is doing it...(hahaha) here are my thoughts on some of the major issues.
1) Gun control. Many people I know hunt not just for sport but for food for their families. In my area the deer are so thick the sides of the roads are littered with carnage. I had two wild turkeys try to commit suicide by standing in the road and refusing to move. If you make guns illegal then only the criminals will have them. Criminals don't care if they break the law or not. It's just law abiding citizens who will be left without protection. Plus any freedom given to us in the Constitution should be left alone period.
2)I believe in a woman's right to choose. It's your decision and you have to live with it. Plus the numbers don't lie. Every year since Roe vs Wade the crime rate has dropped. Look it up!
3)Drill for oil in the US. What are in a war over? Oil. If we had our own there would be no need for the war. We need to drill for oil here so we don't have to depend on any one else. AT THE SAME TIME developing sustainable methods and reducing our need. I'd even go for a cut off date for the use of oil. Speaking of the environment do you think the middle east is concerned about environmental impact? No! By drilling ourselves we can be assured it is being done in the best possible way. 'Cause an oil spill in Iran will eventually end up polluting the shores of Oregon.
4)Gay marriage. I am a Christian (though some would say a bad one) but if two people want to sign a contract that they will love each other forever...what do I care. I'm not saying a gay couple should be allowed to get married in church. But in this country there is a separation of church and state. I for one am thankful for that. I don't want my church in my government any more than I want my government in my church. A marriage contract through the state is just a contract. Do I care if John and June enter into a business contract? No. Then why would I care if Bruce and Tom entered into a love contract.
5) Government aide. The last year I worked a full time job my husband and I payed with in a few thousand dollars of what I made in taxes. Take into account gas for work, clothes, lunches, child care and we were in the hole. (No we never hit six figures.) I am not heartless. I don't want kids starving and if you need a hand up I will help you. But the people who make it a lifestyle piss me off. Lots of times I watch someone pay for their groceries with a link card then get into a nicer car than I can afford. These aide programs train people to depend on the government when they should be teaching people self reliance.
The Candidates
I don't like either one. I don't agree with McCain on some very important issues. Obama speaks of change but hasn't made any in the state he represents. (I live in Illinois.) I also don't agree with him on some very important issues.
So who did I vote for....It's rude to ask and I'm not asking who you voted for either.
PS. I hope to never speak of politics again.

Yes, but I'm glad you did. Because if I know someone is a Christian but I don't know their stance on certain issues then it is difficult for me to know if we share some fundamental ideals.
I'm happy to read what you have to say about some of the issues even though we don't agree completely (gun control) but in essentials I can totally respect your Christianity (even though I'm not) because you aren't interested in imposing it on me.
So even though none of these things are my business, I'm glad you shared. We have some important ideals in common which make bridging the gaps of disagreement so much easier.
Now, what else do you want to talk about?
Hey, glad to hear from you. You wanna talk about dirty toilets? My daughter has had the squirts the last two days and mine is filthy!
Just kidding. I have been reading your blog for about a month. I can't say I agree with you on everything either but the basic prinicples are the same. I try to live by the quote "I may not agree with what your saying but I'll fight to the death for your right to say it." (I can't remember whose quote it is.) Sensible people can disagree but still respect each other and even be friends.
