"Honey, Why Do My Pickles Come From India."

A few weeks ago my husband looked up from the pickle jar and asks "Why are the pickles from India?"

That's right the pickles were from India. Said so right on the jar. "Product of India." Why are we importing pickles? Cucumbers overtake every backyard garden every summer here in the Midwest. You can't give the things away! Literally. Why are we shipping pickles from halfway around the world?

I am currently reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. It's inspiring! As much as I love the book, I will admit I will never be able to be a locavore. I would have to give up oranges and orange juice for the rest of my foreseeable life. I know the oranges that I get are probably not even half as good as one from the grove but I still can't give them up. (I will admit to giving up supermarket out-of-season tomatoes and strawberries.) But seriously the pickles are from India! No more in my house.

In other news my Princess (who is four) shoved a Barbie shoe up her nose today. I held her arms while my husband extracted it with tweezers. Then we talked about the fact that NOTHING is suppose to go up the nose.

We tilled the garden spot today. It's a month late but we had a chilly spring and then near constant rain. I'm not overly worried. We could have 80 degree day's all the way into October. Tomorrow we will re-till and put in the plants.

Good for you! That is a really great book. I admit that citrus is something I am not likely to give up, I do pretty well on most everything else though. I replied on my blog what I do with tomatoes.
You liked the Twilight series right? The new trailer for New Moon is online now. It looks good! I am glad you are posting again.
A Barbie shoe up the nose! Oh, no!!!

Jenn,
I have seen it on other blogs but I am pretty sure it has only been on typepad blogs. I did a quick look on blogspot for any options like that and I didn't see any. Good luck! Hope you are well. -Tonia
